Sorry Monsieur Depp; I can't imagine anyone but Gene Wilder playing Willy Wonka. He
is the kooky candy-maker, the heart of this trippy, creepy "children's" movie. But let's not forget about the kids. The casting is terrific with a perfectly plump Augustus Gloop, the gum-chomping Violet, TV-loving Mike (what else?) TeeVee, and, of course, my alter ego Veruca Salt; I don’t know what a snozzberry is either, girlfriend. Although the Oompa Loompas give me nightmares at night (and that boat ride ain't all roses either), I have to put Willy Wonka in the top ten for the songs alone.
